Ship every order, from every channel, without touching it

EcommerceAutomationFinanceSupportAnalytics

ShipStation is the e-commerce fulfillment hub that pulls orders from every marketplace and shopping cart into one queue — Shopify, Amazon, eBay, and 70 more — then routes them to the right carrier at the right rate. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can create orders the moment a deal closes, generate labels in bulk at end of day, tag and hold suspicious orders before they ship, and fire post-delivery review sequences automatically. The entire order-to-doorstep chain runs without a human touching a keyboard.

Return request to replacement label in 3 min

When a customer emails requesting a return, the agent reads the ShipStation order history to confirm eligibility, creates a pre-paid return label, and posts it back to the customer via Gmail — all while adding a Slack alert to the support channel and blocking a follow-up call on the calendar. A process that once consumed 25 minutes of support agent time now resolves itself before the customer finishes typing their next sentence.

With Actionist

What your agent runs for you

    18 min / week
    Manual order entry after close

Sales reps copy deal details into ShipStation by hand after every Closed Won — a 15-minute task that delays same-day fulfillment.

    Sales Agent
    0 min
Agent creates the ShipStation order instantly

The moment a deal is marked Closed Won, the agent creates the ShipStation order with the right SKU, address, and carrier service — label ready in under a minute.

  • Marketing
    13 min / week
    Post-ship campaign manual triggers

The marketing team manually checks ShipStation each day for shipped orders and triggers review-request emails one by one from the email platform.

    Marketing Agent
    0 min
Agent fires post-ship sequence on every delivery

When ShipStation marks an order shipped, the agent automatically triggers the review and upsell email sequence — every order, no manual campaign check needed.

  • Customer Support
    18 min / week
    Manual return label creation

Support agents look up the original order, generate a return label in ShipStation, then copy-paste it into the reply email — 20 minutes per return ticket.

    Customer Support Agent
    0 min
Agent generates and emails the label in 3 minutes

When a return request arrives, the agent fetches the ShipStation order, creates the label, and emails it to the customer while posting an alert to the support Slack channel.

  • Human Resources
    7 min / week
    Employee kit shipping coordination

HR coordinates with ops to manually create ShipStation orders for new-hire equipment kits, tracking each one separately across email chains and spreadsheets.

    Human Resources Agent
    0 min
    Agent ships onboarding kits automatically

When a new hire is confirmed in the HR system, the agent creates a ShipStation order for the onboarding kit and notifies IT and the hire with a tracking number.

  • Finance
    13 min / week
    Carrier cost manual reconciliation

Finance exports ShipStation shipment data each month and manually matches postage charges to invoices — a 90-minute exercise prone to missed charges.

    Finance Agent
    0 min
    Agent reconciles carrier spend automatically

At month-end the agent lists all ShipStation shipments, totals postage by carrier and store, and posts the reconciliation rows to the finance sheet before the team's first meeting.

  • Operations
    25 min / week
    Late shipment manual discovery

Ops managers discover delayed shipments only when customers complain — by then the tracking has gone cold and carrier claims windows have closed.

    Operations Agent
    0 min
Agent flags delayed shipments every morning

Each morning the agent lists ShipStation shipments past their ETA, escalates each to a support ticket with full carrier data, and logs them in the ops tracker before the warehouse opens.

  • Legal
    6 min / week
    International shipping compliance checks

The legal team manually reviews ShipStation orders destined for restricted countries or requiring customs documentation, catching issues only after labels are printed.

    Legal Agent
    0 min
Agent screens international orders at creation

When a ShipStation order is created with a non-domestic address, the agent checks the destination against the restricted-country list and flags any compliance issues before a label is ever generated.

Connect

How to plug ShipStation into Actionist

Pick the connection method that suits your environment.

The fastest path to ShipStation. The MCP server handles authentication via ShipStation's OAuth flow — no API keys to rotate, no credentials to store, and every agent action runs with the exact permissions you grant at authorisation time.

1
Open the Apps tab

Find ShipStation in the Apps library and click Connect. MCP is selected by default.

2
Authorise in ShipStation

A ShipStation OAuth window opens. Sign in to your ShipStation account and grant Actionist the requested permissions (read orders, create shipments, manage products). Your credentials never touch Actionist directly.

3
Test the connection

Actionist runs a read-only call to verify the handshake. You're ready.

FAQs

Questions about ShipStation + Actionist

Which ShipStation plans give API access?
ShipStation's API is available on all paid plans, including Starter ($9.99/mo) and above. The MCP connection uses OAuth, so any plan that supports your carrier volume will work. Free trials also include API access for testing.
What permissions does Actionist need in ShipStation?
For full agent capability — creating orders, generating labels, reading shipments, managing tags — Actionist needs read and write access to orders, shipments, and products. The MCP OAuth flow presents these scopes explicitly at authorisation so you can review them before granting access.
Can agents create orders across multiple connected stores?
Yes. ShipStation's API exposes a store ID on every order, and the agent can specify which connected store an order belongs to when creating it. Your workflows can dynamically route orders to the right Shopify, Amazon, or manual store based on deal source, product type, or any other condition.
How does Actionist avoid generating duplicate labels?
The agent checks order status before creating a label — if a label already exists for the order, the 'Create shipment label' step returns the existing label rather than generating a second one. For extra safety, add a 'Get order' step before any label creation to confirm the order is still in 'awaiting shipment' status.
Will 'Order Shipped' webhooks trigger on every partial shipment?
The 'Item Shipped' webhook fires per line item (useful for partial fulfillment notifications), while 'Order Shipped' fires only when the entire order is marked shipped. If your workflow should run once per complete order, use 'Order Shipped' as the trigger. If you need per-item reactions, use 'Item Shipped' and include logic to check whether all items are shipped before taking order-level actions.
What happens if ShipStation's API rate limit is hit?
ShipStation enforces a rate limit of 40 requests per minute per API key. For bulk operations — like generating 100 labels at end of day — the agent automatically spaces requests to stay under the limit. If a workflow runs into a 429 error, Actionist backs off and retries using exponential backoff, so batches complete without manual intervention.
Can I revoke Actionist's ShipStation access without deleting the integration?
Yes. In ShipStation, go to Settings → Account → API Settings and revoke or regenerate the API key at any time. For MCP OAuth connections, you can also revoke access from ShipStation's connected-apps page. Revoking access pauses any workflows using ShipStation without deleting the configuration — reconnect whenever you're ready.
How do I connect multiple ShipStation accounts to one Actionist workspace?
Each ShipStation account requires a separate connection in Actionist. Name each connection clearly (e.g. 'ShipStation — US Warehouse', 'ShipStation — EU Warehouse') and reference the appropriate connection in each workflow step. Agents can read from one account and write to another in the same workflow.
