New customer? Onboarding fires in seconds

When a new SMS arrives from a number not yet in your system, your agent instantly pulls up the contact in RingCentral, creates the customer record with their details, fires a Slack ping to the assigned CSM with the full context, and drops a kickoff call directly onto both calendars — the whole handoff done before the message notification fades.

Connect

How to plug RingCentral into Actionist

Pick the connection method that suits your environment.

The fastest path. Actionist manages the OAuth handshake with RingCentral automatically—the agent accesses your messages, calls, and contacts through a permissioned connection with no tokens to copy or rotate yourself.

1
Open the Apps tab

Find RingCentral in the Apps library and click Connect. MCP is selected by default.

2
Sign in to RingCentral

Complete the OAuth flow in the popup. Grant Actionist access to your selected workspaces—voice, messaging, and fax permissions are requested upfront.

3
Test the connection

Actionist runs a read-only call to verify the handshake. You’re ready.

FAQs

Questions about RingCentral + Actionist

How do I connect RingCentral to Actionist?
Actionist uses MCP to connect to RingCentral — you authorize via OAuth in your RingCentral admin portal and Actionist immediately gains access to send SMS, place calls, and react to webhooks. No manual API key entry required. After connecting, your agents can start acting on RingCentral events within seconds.
What permissions does Actionist request from RingCentral?
Actionist requests read and write access to messages, call logs, voicemails, contacts, and meeting creation. You can scope the OAuth token to limit access — for example, restrict it to SMS-only if your agents only need to send texts. Revoke anytime from the RingCentral admin portal and the connection is severed immediately.
Can my agents send SMS to any phone number?
Yes — once connected, your agents can send SMS and MMS to any valid phone number in your RingCentral account's allowed destinations. You control permitted destination lists in RingCentral's admin settings. Out-of-region or premium-rate numbers can be blocked at the platform level before your agent ever touches them.
How do I avoid trigger loops when my agent sends SMS based on inbound messages?
Two safeguards prevent loops: first, your agent only fires on a webhook trigger once, so an inbound SMS cannot recursively re-trigger itself. Second, add a deduplication step — your agent checks a stored flag (like a Google Sheet row or Notion page) before sending any outbound SMS, ensuring the same inbound message never produces duplicate outbound actions.
Are there rate limits on RingCentral API calls?
RingCentral enforces per-user rate limits on API requests — typically 20 requests per user per minute for messaging endpoints. Actionist queues requests and respects backoff headers automatically. For high-volume SMS campaigns, spread sends across a wider time window or use RingCentral's built-in broadcast features instead of individual API calls.
Can scheduled agents place outbound calls through RingCentral?
Yes — use the Generate Ringout Call action to have your agent place an outbound call to a specified phone number and connect it to an extension. Schedule this on a cron trigger, and your agent will dial leads, confirm appointments, or run status checks at the exact time you specify without any human involvement.
Does Actionist have access to call recordings?
When a new call recording is processed by RingCentral's ACE system, Actionist receives a webhook with the recording metadata and a signed URL. Your agent can read that URL, retrieve the audio, and transcribe it for review — but it cannot download or persist recordings outside your configured storage without an explicit action from your agent.
What happens when a call disconnects mid-workflow?
RingCentral webhooks fire on call state changes (ringing, answered, ended, no-answer) independently. If a call ends before your agent completes a downstream action — like logging a note to your CRM — the webhook already delivered the event data, so your agent finishes the workflow using that cached payload. The workflow completes even if the call itself drops.
