YOURLS is a self-hosted, open-source URL shortener that runs on your own domain and stores every click on your own database. Connect it to Actionist and your agent can shorten any URL in seconds, mint custom-keyword links on demand, pull per-link click stats, and delete expired redirects — all without touching the YOURLS admin panel. Every link you create stays on infrastructure you control, with analytics that no third-party shortener can revoke or paywalled.

Support portal links, tracked from first click

When a customer emails a support question, your agent checks whether a YOURLS short URL already exists for the relevant help article, creates one if not, and fires the link into a Slack message for the support rep to share — all with click tracking intact. Every support interaction now comes with a compact, branded link the rep can paste in seconds, and the click stats reveal exactly which articles customers actually read after closing a ticket.

Agent runs the link audit automatically

The agent lists all short URLs on schedule, exports them with click counts, deletes confirmed dead links, and delivers a Notion audit page with a ready-to-action cleanup list.

  • Legal
    6 min / week
    Compliance link takedown

When legal flags a page for removal, someone has to find all short URLs pointing to it in the YOURLS admin, delete each one manually, and confirm the redirect is gone — prone to delay.

FAQs

Questions about Yourls + Actionist

How do I connect YOURLS to Actionist?
Open the Apps tab, find YOURLS, and click Connect. The recommended path is MCP — enter your YOURLS instance base URL and approve the connection. If you prefer API token auth, go to your YOURLS admin panel, click Tools → Secure passwordless API call, copy the Signature token, and paste it into Actionist's credential field. Either method takes under two minutes.
What credentials does the agent need to call the YOURLS API?
YOURLS uses a Signature token for passwordless API access — not your admin username and password. Find it at Tools → Secure passwordless API call in your YOURLS admin panel. This token grants full API access, so store it like a password and rotate it if you ever suspect it has been exposed. The MCP path manages credentials on your behalf without ever exposing the raw token to the agent.
Can the agent combine YOURLS with other apps in one automation?
Yes — YOURLS is most powerful as part of a multi-app flow. A common setup: a HubSpot deal advances → agent shortens the demo URL via YOURLS with a deal-specific keyword → posts the link to Slack → logs it in Google Sheets. The agent reads from and writes to YOURLS as one step in a longer chain, so link creation is wired directly into your existing CRM, email, and content workflows.
What can the agent actually do with YOURLS once connected?
The agent can shorten any URL (with or without a custom keyword), expand a short URL to its destination, retrieve click stats for a specific link, list all short URLs on the instance, check whether a URL is already shortened, update a link's destination without changing its keyword, delete expired links, and pull traffic breakdowns by country, referrer, browser, and day. Effectively the full YOURLS API surface is available in plain-language instructions.
Does YOURLS have rate limits the agent needs to respect?
YOURLS is self-hosted, so there are no externally imposed rate limits — your server's capacity is the ceiling. On a typical shared-hosting YOURLS install, concurrent API calls can slow the admin interface; for bulk operations like listing all links or batch-shortening, instruct the agent to process links in batches of 20–50 rather than hammering the API in one burst. On a VPS or dedicated host this is rarely an issue.
Can the agent shorten URLs with custom keywords, or only random ones?
Both — the Shorten URL with custom keyword action lets you specify the slug (e.g. yourls.example.com/q4launch), while the standard Shorten a URL action lets YOURLS assign a random short keyword. Custom keywords are useful for branded, memorable links in printed materials or ads; random keywords are fine for tracking links where the slug doesn't need to be human-readable.
How does the agent handle short URLs that already exist when shortening?
Before creating a new short URL, use the Check if URL is short action — it queries YOURLS and returns the existing keyword if one already exists for that destination. This prevents duplicate short links splitting your click analytics across two keywords. For automated bulk flows, build this check into the first step of your workflow so the agent always returns an existing link rather than creating a redundant one.
What happens to my click data if I disconnect YOURLS from Actionist?
Nothing — YOURLS stores all click data on your own server, completely independent of Actionist. Disconnecting removes the agent's ability to call the YOURLS API, but every link and its historical click stats remain exactly where they were. Reconnect at any time with the same credentials and the agent picks up from the current state of your YOURLS database without any data loss.
