Questions about Wise + Actionist

How do I connect Wise to Actionist?
Open the Apps tab, find Wise, and click Connect. The recommended path is MCP — Actionist will prompt you for a Wise API token, which you generate in Wise under Settings → API tokens. Paste the token, click Authorise, and Actionist runs a read-only balance check to confirm the handshake. The whole setup takes under two minutes.
What permissions does the Wise API token need?
Generate a token with Full Access to allow agents to read balances, create quotes, manage recipients, and execute transfers. If you only want read-only monitoring (balances, rates, statement download), create a token with Read-only scope — transfers and quote creation will be disabled. Wise shows the token only once at creation, so store it securely.
Which Wise objects can the agent read and write?
Read: multi-currency balances, borderless account statements, live exchange rates, all profiles, recipient accounts, transfer details, lists of transfers, delivery estimates, and supported currencies. Write: recipient accounts, transfer quotes, transfers, funded (executed) transfers, and transfer cancellations. Triggers fire on balance credits, balance movements, transfer status changes, and compliance case updates.
Can agents execute international transfers automatically?
Yes — the agent can create a quote, create a transfer, and fund it in sequence. For safety, the recommended pattern is to require a human approval step (e.g. a Slack thumbs-up reaction) before the Fund transfer action fires. You can also limit auto-execution to transfers below a defined threshold and route larger amounts through an approval workflow.
How does the transfer status trigger work?
Wise pushes a webhook event each time a transfer moves between statuses: incoming_payment_waiting, processing, funds_converted, outgoing_payment_sent, and funds_returned. Actionist listens for these events and routes them to the correct agent action — for example, sending a payment confirmation email on 'outgoing_payment_sent' or opening a recovery task on 'funds_returned'.
What happens if a transfer fails or funds are returned?
When Wise returns a transfer with status 'funds_returned', the Balance credited trigger fires. Your Finance Agent can be configured to detect the returned amount, match it to the original transfer ID, reopen the invoice as unpaid in your accounting system, and create a task to investigate the failure reason — all without manual intervention.
Are there rate limits on the Wise API I should know about?
Wise enforces rate limits on their API — typically a few hundred requests per minute for standard accounts. Actionist's scheduler respects these limits by batching balance reads and statement downloads rather than polling continuously. If you run high-volume workflows (e.g. hundreds of transfers per day), contact Wise to request increased limits on your API token.
Can I use Wise with multiple business profiles?
Yes — the Get all profiles action returns every personal and business profile on your Wise account. You can configure your agents to route transfers from the correct profile based on the source currency or entity, enabling multi-entity businesses to automate payments from both their UK and EU Wise accounts without separate credentials.
