EcommerceMarketingFinanceAnalyticsAutomationEmailCRM

Squarespace Commerce is an all-in-one website and online store platform that lets merchants sell physical goods, digital downloads, and services from a single branded storefront. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can read orders, update fulfilment, sync inventory, tag customer profiles, and fire transactional emails — reacting to every purchase, refund, and new registration in real time without anyone logging into the Squarespace dashboard.

Order-to-inbox: fulfilment in 60 seconds

The moment a customer completes checkout, your agent reads the full order from Squarespace Commerce, checks inventory, dispatches a personalised confirmation via Gmail, updates the fulfilment record, and posts a warehouse alert in Slack — all before the customer's browser tab has closed. No one needs to log into the store dashboard.

FAQs

Questions about Squarespace Commerce + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to my Squarespace store?
Connect via the MCP method in the Apps tab — click Connect, authorise in your Squarespace account to grant the required Commerce scopes, and Actionist runs a read-only test call to confirm. The entire process takes under two minutes and requires no developer involvement.
Which Squarespace plan do I need for API access?
The Commerce API and webhook features require a Squarespace Business plan or higher. The Basic plan does not expose API Key generation or Commerce webhooks. If you are on a lower tier, upgrading to Business unlocks all the actions and triggers Actionist uses.
What permissions does Actionist request from Squarespace?
Actionist requests read and write access to Orders, Products, Inventory, Customer Profiles, and Transactions. It does not request access to your site design, billing settings, or domain configuration. You can review and revoke the connection at any time from your Squarespace dashboard under Settings → Advanced → External API Access.
Will my agents trigger again when they update an order — causing a loop?
No. Squarespace Commerce webhooks fire on customer-initiated events; programmatic updates via the API do not re-trigger the same webhook. However, if you have multiple agents watching Updated Order, co-ordinate their logic so only one agent writes back to Squarespace per event to avoid conflicting writes.
Can agents read and write product inventory in real time?
Yes. The Get inventory and Update inventory actions work synchronously against the Squarespace Commerce REST API, so agents can read current stock levels and adjust quantities in the same workflow run. Note that Squarespace enforces a rate limit of 100 requests per minute per API key — the agent respects this automatically with built-in back-off.
How many orders can the Get orders action retrieve at once?
The Squarespace Commerce API paginates order results in pages of up to 50 records. For large date ranges the agent automatically pages through results and aggregates them before processing, so you do not need to loop manually. Very large exports covering thousands of orders may take 30–60 seconds depending on store size.
Can I use the New Order trigger without exposing my store's webhook secret?
Yes. When you connect via the MCP method, Actionist handles webhook registration and signature verification on your behalf using the OAuth token — your webhook secret never passes through your configuration. If you connect via API Token, Actionist still manages the secret internally and validates each payload before your agent sees it.
What happens if a Squarespace action fails mid-workflow?
Actionist marks the failed step with the API error code and halts the workflow rather than silently skipping it. A 401 Unauthorized error means your token has expired or been revoked — reconnect in the Apps tab. A 429 rate-limit error triggers automatic retry with exponential back-off. For any persistent failure you will see a detailed error report in the workflow run history.
